FREE THE LAND: THE MALCOM X DOCTRINE

This capsule is the first release in The Black School’s newest clothing collection “Free the Land”, inspired by Brother Malcolm’s step-by-step instructions for Black liberation in America, which, he simply and elegantly laid out in his 1963 speech Message to the Grassroots. At a rally in Detroit Malcolm proclaimed, “Revolution is based on land. Land is the basis of all independence. Land is the basis of freedom.” We take inspiration from the 80’s Japanese cyberpunk anime Akira to retell the story of The Republic of New Afrika, a Black radical organization who set out in 1968 to realize Malcolm’s vision and build an independent Black nation in the Southeastern United States.
