Throughout this year, The Black School has begun hosting Artist Roundtable Dinners to foster conversation among BIPOC artists on what support they would like to see from NOLA’s visual art landscape. These dinners create opportunities for connection between local artists, and space to share your thoughts on what support is needed in the visual arts landscape. The Black School is using the Artists input gathered during these dinners to help shape our future professional artist program.
In March, we partnered with Friends of the Freedom House (@friendsofthefreedomhouse) and Chef Big G504 (@chefgee504). Also we partnered with the Helis Foundation John Scott Center (@johnscottcenter) and Chef Indigo (@_indig0soulcuisine) to host another beautiful gathering.
TBS is looking forward to connecting with more artists soon.
If you are a BIPOC visual artist in New Orleans and interested in being apart of this community please

Program Description:
Ford Foundation Report, Organizational Overview Document, Program Strategic Plan Document, Independent Curators International Meeting Presentation
The Black School (TBS) uses art and activism to transform social realities through Black Love, healing, and self-determination. It is a Black-Centered experimental art school teaching BIPoC and ally students to be agents of change through art and design programming based on Social good African diasporic histories.
We are thrilled to be working with New Orleans-born and based artist Sheleen Jones on our first public art sculpture and bike rack, which will open with the new Black Schoolhouse. GRIOT takes inspiration from the historic Black metal smithing legacy in New Orleans, tracing its roots to the artistry of free Black metalsmiths, who utilized West African iconography to pass covert messages to their fellow Africans. The work of Free Black metalsmiths is an integral aspect of New Orleans culture to this day.
